School projects, programs and events funded by the
Foundation:
Cooke Elementary School:
As a part of Family Reading Night at the school, activities are planned around Dr. Seuss’s birthday using his books as a focus and each student that attends the event will be given a new paperback book.
Gale Elementary School:
Peter Roop – Wisconsin State Teacher of the Year and Wisconsin Elementary Teach of the Year. Author of Before I Made History and In Their Own Words, Roop is a nonfiction author. These historical non-fiction series help young readers make connections to historical figures through the ages. He also weaves writing into his presentation by having students create books of their own. This author’s visit will be used as a reading and writing motivational tool throughout the entire school year.
Gale Safe Schools Cadre will film a video for new students to the building instructing them on various appropriate behaviors and rules to follow using current students to model behaviors and tasks.
King Elementary School:
Kindergarten – two ‘Add to Pack’ sets of leveled books as part of the guided reading program.
First Grade – additional book sets with accompanying CD’s for the listening center; Touch Money Math program teaching students how to count money; language arts resource materials that focuses on reading fluency; leveled reading books providing a variety of books to select from for silent reading, guided reading and reading at home.
Second Grade – additional book sets that will not only help with reading but also in writing, math and social studies skills.
Third Grade – a wide range of reading and interest level classroom library books.

Fourth Grade – a set of Toobalooes, phone like devices that magnify student’s voices as they read aloud allowing them to hear themselves clearly while speaking softly helping with fluency – a key component to reading success; Quiddler, a word game that helps all levels grow in spelling and reading skills; a set of manipulative clocks to use for the math unit on time and money helping teach the concept of elapsed time.
Fifth Grade – novels to add to the language arts curriculum increasing reading comprehension; VCR/DVD player to assist in learning through an integrated approach of language arts, science, math and social studies.
Nielson Elementary School:
MathFacts in a Flash – a computer based math program that helps children at all levels practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, squares, fractions and decimal conversion. This offers teachers a motivational tool, a way to personalize instruction, and monitor student and class progress.
Silas Willard Elementary School:
Four book sets for the 2nd Grade - A new special reading program will be created for the 2nd graders, similar to the Richardson Reader’s Program for the 1st graders.

Steele Elementary School:

Computer software – Software upgrades and programs that will help prepare the students to become a part of the global community. Students will learn about basic operations and concepts; social issues and ethics; technology productivity, communications and research tools; and technology problem-solving and decision-making tools.
Churchill Junior High School:
MWAH Assembly – Messages Which Are Hopeful is an assembly that provides messages with acceptance and hope for students by showing the importance of choice. The objective is to inspire young people to face life’s challenges and opportunities with knowledge, confidence and a positive self-image with the performing group discussing alcohol and drug prevention, bullying prevention and tolerance of people who are different.
Carl Cannon Assembly – Through role playing, audience response and straight talk with first hand accounts from individuals who have suffered through the consequences of poor judgment, Cannon’s message is about making positive, healthy choices.
Lombard Middle School:
SMART Board – This is an instructional tool that incorporates technology into the classroom in a very interactive means. The board helps energize presentations and motivate learners. Combined with a computer and a projector, it has the power to transform any space into a dynamic learning, training or working environment.
LCD projector - The Building Technology Committee, consisting of the principal, a student and teachers from each grade level along with the music/band teacher working with a technology consultant – purchased an LCD projector. Used with the SMART Board, the projector will be used for classroom instruction with teachers checking it out from the library.
Galesburg High School:
English Department – an LCD projector to allow for teacher presentations in class and also help facilitate student projects in their courses.
Science Department – several high speed USB Serial adapters allowing a class set of computers to run in the Physics room
Social Studies Department - several technology items to be used in a variety of classrooms for presentations including a LCD projector, VHS/DVD player, speakers, and cart for housing and transporting items.
Vocational Agriculture – new classroom computer
Industrial Tech – safety materials
Music Department – 24 new music stands and sound equipment for auditorium
Health & P.E. Departments – TV, VCR/DVD player and cart along with several educational videos
Foreign Language Department – an Ipod with compatible docking station and Itune cards for purchase of music to help facilitate the integration of music and culture into the curriculum as well as the development of music units in the respective languages; a microwave to assist students during the annual Food Day each semester; portable CD players for the listening exercises and tests that are done on CD’s.
Family & Consumer Science Department – Easels that can be used in the classrooms along with DVD’s, software, educational games and kitchen utensils
Math Department – an overhead projector calculator used with the TI-30X calculators; a TI 89 Titanium Presentation Link for use in Algebra III/Trigonometry, Math Analysis, Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus classes.
Business Department – Examview for Intro to Business class which is supplemental material offering the availability of a database of questions and information that has real life applications and scenarios by creating study guides, quizzes and tests complimentary to any subject.
Driver Education Department – purchase of films that prepare teens for safer and more responsible driving replacing out-of-date films in specific areas of curriculum.
