Annual Duck Race

Annual Duck Race

Annual Rubber Duck Race

In 1996 the Galesburg Public Schools hosted its first Rubber Duck Race. This broad based community fundraiser has become an annual event and has raised thousands of dollars for the local schools.

Held in September of each year, the duck race has become an “end of summer rite” as hundreds of adults & children gather at Lake Storey to watch the cardboard board boat regatta and then cheer on their winning duck! (See Photos for 2009 Annual Duck Race photos)

Ducks are ‘adopted’ for only $5 each, allowing community wide participation. The revenue generated from this re"duck"ulously family friendly fundraising event allows the Foundation to award monetary grants to schools in the district. Each school determines their use of Foundation dollars in realizing our goal which is to enhance the educational opportunities for all students. The Foundation also awards money to the PTO’s and Booster Clubs of the schools who work hard to sell the ducks.

It is because of the support of our business community along with our volunteers behind-the-scenes hard work - including in-school competitions, neighborhood drives, and manning the ‘duck booths’ that our duck race is so successful. The Foundation is proud to sponsor the Annual Duck Race.

The date for next year's Annual Rubber Duck Race is set for Sunday, September 12, 2010...mark your calendar! Adoption information and sponsorship information will be coming soon.

Galesburg Public Schools Foundation’s
15th Annual Rubber Duck Race
Official Rules and Regulations:

Galesburg Public Schools Foundation, hereinafter referred to as “Presenter” is a not-for-profit corporation in Illinois with an IRS designation as 501(c)3 c corporation, FEIN #37-1221752.
1. Ducks will be launched into Lake Storey on Sunday, September 12, 2010. The “race” will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes. The race course will be established by PRESENTER. Once ducks are launched, no attempt to free, interfere, remove or add any ducks will be permitted unless sanctioned by the PRESENTER.
2. A maximum of 10,000 rubber ducks will be entered into the race. All ducks entered will be provided by the PRESENTER and shall remain the property of PRESENTER.
3. A number will be attached to each duck relating to the numbers on the duck adoption applications. Multiple duck entries from one duck adoption application will be assigned additional duck numbers for identification. The person’s name who appears on the application corresponding to the number of first ducks in order of finish in the race will be awarded prizes. Chances of winning depend on total number of qualified entrants. A list of prizes can be obtained from PRESENTER by sending a written self addressed stamped envelope to GPSF, P.O. Box 687, Galesburg, IL 61401.
4. The combined retail value of all prizes will be nearly $5,000. PRESENTER reserves the right, as its sole option, to substitute prizes of comparable value. No cash equivalent prizes will be provided in lieu of the designated prizes.
5. Each duck adoption application must be completed in full and delivered to PRESENTER or an authorized representative of PRESENTER or mailed to PRESENTER at the address set forth in Paragraph 3 above. Adoption application must be received by PRESENTER prior to the race for entrant to be eligible to win any prize. Entrants assume the risk of non-delivery on any entries to PRESENTER or an authorized representative of PRESENTER. Entrants must be18 years of age or older and must prove eligibility.
6. No purchase is necessary in order to enter or win. PRESENTER does request a donation of $5 per entry to benefit the Galesburg Public Schools Foundation, a charitable organization under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Free race entry defeats the charitable fundraising purpose of the event and is not encouraged. However one free race entry per person can be obtained by mailing a handwritten request to the PRESENTER to the address listed in Paragraph 3. Requests for free race entry made after September 1, 2010, or after 10,000 ducks have been adopted will not be honored. PRESENTER, at its sole discretion, can increase the number of ducks and the deadline. Adoption papers postmarked after September 6, 2010 will be considered a donation.
7. Winners will be announced at Lake Storey after the conclusion of the race on September 12, 2010. Race winners need not be present to win. Within 96 hours of the completion of the race, all winners will be mailed a letter verifying their prize. When that letter is received the winner may claim their prize as per the instructions included in the verification letter. If any race winner does not claim his/her prize from PRESENTER at the address above in Paragraph 3 within thirty (30) days after September 12, he/she will forfeit prize.
8. Member of the Board of Directors and their immediate families (living in the same household) are not eligible to win.
9. By entering, entrants release PRESENTER and its officers, directors, staff and other related entities from any and all liability with respect to prizes. By entering, a winner consents to the promotional use of their names and likenesses without additional compensation.
10. The conduct of the race and determination of race winners will be audited by a representative of an independent auditing firm. All decisions and interpretations of rules and regulations and local laws and regulations are void where prohibited by law.
11. The Derby Duck Race/Turbo Turtle Trek is a licensed fundraising event of GAME – Great American Merchandise and Events.
