Annual Duck Race

Annual Duck Race

Annual Rubber Duck Race

In 1996 the Galesburg Public Schools hosted its first Rubber Duck Race. This broad based community fundraiser has become an annual event and has raised thousands of dollars for the local schools.

Held in September of each year, the duck race has become an “end of summer rite” as hundreds of adults & children gather at Lake Storey to watch the cardboard board boat regatta and then cheer on their winning duck! (See Photos for 2007 Annual Duck Race photos)

Ducks are ‘adopted’ for only $5 each, allowing community wide participation. The revenue generated from this re"duck"ulously family friendly fundraising event allows the Foundation to award monetary grants to schools in the district. Each school determines their use of Foundation dollars in realizing our goal which is to enhance the educational opportunities for all students. The Foundation also awards money to the PTO’s and Booster Clubs of the schools who work hard to sell the ducks.

It is because of the support of our business community along with our volunteers behind-the-scenes hard work - including in-school competitions, neighborhood drives, and manning the ‘duck booths’ that our duck race is so successful. The Foundation is proud to sponsor the Annual Duck Race.
