Richardson’s Readers

This incentive reading program for all first graders is the product of a monetary gift from former first grade teacher, Dorothea Richardson. Miss Richardson always thought to instill a passion for learning in her young students and this program is designed as a way to continue to encourage children to develop a love for reading at an early age.

Richardson’s Readers

First Graders at Gale Elementary School
receive their Richardson’s Readers
medallions and certificates. (2004)

Each elementary school has received sets of 20 hardbound books to be housed in their library. Every March and April, books from this collection can be read by, read to or read with the students. Each student who reads or listens to from one to nineteen books receives an award certificate. Any student who reads or listens to all 20 books receives an engraved Richardson Readers medallion. 100% of first graders participate in this program with most receiving medallions.

It is the Foundation’s hope that this program will continue the legacy started over 60 years ago and in doing so, honor the spirit of this beloved teacher.
